About the lecture:
Elena Švarc (1948-2010), a major representative of the renaissance of Leningrad unofficial poetry from the 1970s onwards, has continued to influence Russian-language poetry until today. Daniel Jurjev, who knew Elena Švarc personally and has been translating her poems for several years, will introduce the author in her literary and cultural-historical context and through selected poems, and discuss challenges and opportunities in translating them.
Daniel Jurjev (*1988) works as a freelance literary translator for Russian, Japanese and English, as well as a publicist and poet. Latest book publication: (Translation from Russian): Vsevolod Petrov. Wonders. Chudesa. Friedenauer Presse, Berlin 2019.
